Seriously? Are you kidding me? What genius in DC thought this up and how did it get passed? If I'm understanding this correctly...to think the things from my childhood no longer available to me (so much for getting Smurf items off eBay) - I played with them then and nothing happened to me. I understand concern - but this just seems extreme to me...

Children's library books...c'mon, give me a break...so does this mean that there will no longer be a library in your child's elementary school because of this act...this is probably one of the stupidest things I've heard of...Melanie, thank you for posting this on your blog and bringing it to my attention...being that I don't have children, I don't keep my eye out for things like this, but am glad to know.

Wikipedia

Okay, so the kewl thing about Wikipedia is the journey you can go on...say you start out with something like, oh...I don't know...Old School Hip Hop

So you read all about the history of Old School and when you're done, you click the link to...LL Cool J and you read all about LL and see he guest starred on House...so you click on House...well, I like Robert Sean Leonard...which leads to the movie Swing Kids...to Swing music...to Benny Goodman...to of all things, PBS...to The Electric Company...to Morgan Freeman...to March of the Penguins...to National Geographic Society...(which at this point, I could totally keep going...I think y'all get the point by now) But the Nat'l Geo Society has nothing to do with Old School Hip Hop...not that I'm aware of anyway. ;)

So this is what I'll do some days at work to pass the time. It's a fun journey...you should try it sometime when you have nothing else to do and want to be educated/entertained.

And yes, you can Wiki Wikipedia itself...I've done that, too.

The Dictionary

Now, I've done my fair share of searching over the years with my friends Merriam and Webster and while I find that a dictionary is great for finding the definition of a word, it can be a real pain when trying to locate how to actually spell a word. 'Is it in- or en-?' 'The silent 'g'?', etc., etc. And yeah, you might be sitting there thinking "But Sarah, what about spellcheck?" Yeah well, spellcheck isn't 100% accurate either. I love it when it tells you you've misspelled a word and offers a spelling suggestion that is...wait for it...the exact same spelling! *smacks head*

Being the child of a dyslexic parent, I learned pretty quick to spell...my mom would always be asking me how to spell words. And I've developed the habit of finding spelling errors in letters and emails...Guess I'm glad I think I'm a pretty decent speller. Although I did learn the other day that I've been spelling 'familiar' wrong for many years now...but no more. Thank you Spellcheck. :)

When I got my Jeep Liberty in January, I had decided that I would simply call it "Jeep" and I just knew I wanted a decal of Eugene the Jeep (from Popeye) for the back...after an internet search, I found the decal on allthingsjeep.com, but in the process, ran across his history on wikipedia.com...

Background on Eugene the Jeep:
In the context of the comic strip, Eugene the Jeep was a gift to Popeye's girlfriend Olive Oyl from her Uncle Ben who found Eugene in Africa. The Jeep is a yellow creature about the size of a dog who walks on his hind legs. He has a bear-like head and ears but a large nose, long tail, and protruding stomach. The Jeep's diet consists only of orchids.

As his language is limited to the word "Jeep", Eugene primarily communicates through body language. Eugene always tells the truth, and, possessing high intelligence, is able to help humans such as Popeye and Olive Oyl solve complex problems. He makes use of a limited form of teleportation; he can disappear from one place and reappear in another, and can walk through and on walls and ceilings. These teleportation powers are said to stem from the Jeep's ability to cross into the fourth dimension.

It has been theorized that the Jeep vehicle was named after this character: soldiers in World War II may have nicknamed the machine after the then-popular character because they shared an ability to "go anywhere".

Somedays 17 years seems like a lifetime ago,

while other days it seems like yesterday.

I read a while back they have reunited...

Wonder if that means another tour?

This past week's episode of One Tree Hill had one of it's main characters, Lucas Scott, speak the following words as a voiceover at the end of the episode:

"Albert Camus once wrote, "Blessed are the hearts that can bend; they shall never be broken." But I wonder if there's no breaking then there's no healing, and if there's no healing then there's no learning. And if there's no learning then there's no struggle. But struggle is a part of life.
